Introducing Casual Wear for Everyone
Casual generally means anything goes. In terms of clothing, it refers to such kind of clothing that gives a feeling of comfort and leisure to the person wearing it. The Europeans categorize the word casual as a dress code which means that the garments which fall into the casual wear category are basically very comfortable and do not fall into a certain norm of dressing oneself up. Casual wear can be anything which you like to wear and can be as per your tastes and not a predetermined way to dress up. However it is very difficult to define what casual wear is because someone’s personal tastes cannot be defined.
Clothes like a ceremonial dress or a full dress cannot be considered casual. Party wear cannot be considered casual wear, and something which includes ties is definitely not casual wear. Gowns are also not casual wear. Clothes like a pair of Jeans and a tee shirt, golf tees, collared tees, flowery skirts, shorts are all called casual wear. It is something which is very utilitarian in nature and you can just wear them without having to do much coordination or taking a lot of effort to dress up. Casual wear is considered insensitive sometimes for occasions like a gathering which may be very informal in nature but the Americans and the rest of the world believe that they have the right to feel comfortable and would like to wear what they want.
In the modern days, up until the 1970’s the work force increasingly wore suits and formal clothes where there was a constant pressure to dress up in a certain way. The people ended up not getting a chance for self expression and that is why this perception underwent a major change. People who work and are running the grind all the time prefer to be dressed in casual wear, and don’t mind being under dressed either. They reach a point when they don’t really care how others feel about how they dress as long as they are comfortable.
The buzzword for casual wear is comfort and ease and the liberty to make an individual style statement.
